Confucianism Culture
The society under the Han Dynasty was very different than other cultures. In order of power the order of rulers is emperor to governors and kings to nobles, scholars, and state officials to peasants to artisans and merchants to soldiers to slaves. The reason for this structure was because the Chinese believed thier emperor should be a divine authority. If the emperor did well China had peace and prosperity but if he failed the heavens showed displeasure. This is where the Mandate of Heaven steps in. If the emperor was foolish he would lose his authority. The emperor used a bureaucracy and the peasants gave a part of their crops to the government. Also every one paid taxes to found the country's government. The bureaucracy included 18 ranks of civil service jobs, that the government jobs that civilians obtained by taking examinations. Also you could run for government if you had an application for testing. This idea came from confucianism which are the teachings of Confucius who lived 400 years before. Wudi even formed schools so the people could learn the teachings of Confucuis which led to many jobs in history, law, literaure, and more Confucianism.
